SiXDAYSOBER were formed early 2004 by multi-instrumentalist Daniel Law and drummer Andrew Price in a response to their dismay at the then stagnating indie/punk dominated Birmingham music scene.

Looking to create music that could not be confined to one genre, while maintaining a strong sense of melody, they pushed the technical boundaries of their abilities and the music to create a hybrid prog-rock/metal sound that they enjoyed playing and would later form a distinct sound to be enjoyed by all.

Soon to be joined by bassist James Rogers, the Trio rented space beneath a Birmingham studio to perfect their now signature sound. It was during this time that the band adopted the now well known moniker SiXDAYSOBER; stemming from the battles with heavy drinking that both the founding members had fought through to face their personal demons. It is also a reference to the second major milestone that alcoholics go through, on reaching a week sober, as they feel that they have now kicked the habit and often descend back down the spiral.

Ready to unleash their music upon the world they recruited a vocalist and played their first gig at the then local scene staple, the Flapper & Firkin (voted best venue for unsigned acts in the midlands by BBC Radio 1). Playing to a sold-out crowd the reviews were nothing but stunning; The Band quickly rose to be a dominant and well known force in the scene, with a good work ethic and a reputation for filling venues, it quickly lead to touring support slots with Bullet For My Valentine, Dry Kill Logic, Aiden, Mendeed, Anemic, and The Hurt Process. With the band’s signature “Heavy, Articulate, Calculated Rock” sound, blistering live shows and release of several EPs lead to a large, diverse, and loyal following from around the country.

Ironically the very thing that united the founding members almost destroyed the vocalist as he struggled with the pressure of success and developed a problem that spiraled out of control, eventually alienating his friends and family, it became so bad that he felt that he had no choice but to leave his life, and the band, and start again. Rather than allowing this to impact the band detrimentally the trio took the time to expand their sound and further push their boundaries.

Recruiting former Imaginary Heroes guitarist Adam Brett the band looks to push the sound further with additional layers of guitar creating a new dynamic side for the band, adding punch and amazing riffs, as well as some beautifully haunting licks, Adam has had a massive impact on the band and the music.

Vocalist Stuart Hammond (Seven Against), was looking for a project to showcase his extraordinary vocal skills, whilst the Trio had been searching for the right voice to fill the sound and compliment the music, Stuart auditioned and the band have not looked back since.

With an established band, it is always difficult for new members to click and fit into the dynamic, and build on trust. With Dan, Andy, Jim, Ad & Stu a lasting friendship has evolved that will stand the boys in good stead for the bright future about to unfold. The band still holds onto its original founder’s ideals, and with new blood, SiXDAYSOBER and its unique sound is stronger than ever.

With a new EP recorded, and upcoming live dates arranged, SiXDAYSOBER are now ready once again to push their music, and the scene, to new levels.
